Ford’s REPREVE Saves 9 Million Plastic Bottles from Landfills

9 Apr

Earth day is just around the corner (April 22nd), so how will you be celebrating?

Ford has been doing its part to stay environmentally conscious by utilizing REPREVE, a fusion of recycled materials including plastic water bottles and post-industrial waste, which together form a polyester fiber.

Originally introduced into its lineup in 2011, the Ford Motor Company was the first to utilize the REPREVE yarn in its seats and now currently uses the material in five of its vehicle offerings, including the 2015 F-150 pick-up. Recently, Ford released a statement indicating that 9 million plastic bottles will be averted from landfills this year with the implementation of REPREVE in its newest truck.

“By using REPREVE in the all-new Ford F-150, we are reconfirming our commitment to using renewable and recyclable materials in our vehicles,” said Carol Kordich, Ford’s lead designer, global sustainability materials strategy development. “We are always looking for ways to incorporate more innovative and sustainable materials into our vehicles.”
