This year, Ford is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original Shelby GT350. To really celebrate, Ford will produce a limited run of 2015 Shelby GT350 models. How limited? Ford says it will only roll out 100 models with 50 coming equipped with the Technology Package and the other 50 coming with the Track Package.
“Fans of the Shelby brand are among the most passionate in the automotive industry,” said Henry Ford III, Ford Performance marketing manager, in a statement. “To honor the passion of our fans for Shelby GT350’s 50th anniversary, a limited run of GT350 models will be built in 2015; these cars will be highly coveted by both Mustang and Shelby enthusiasts alike.”
The 2015 Shelby GT350 will feature the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever—a 5.2-liter V8 that pumps out more than 500 horsepower.
For those who want a truly track-ready, yet still street-legal car, the Shelby GT350R is what you want. To pay homage to Carroll Shelby who created this iconic line, Ford will only be producing 37 of the 2015 Shelby GT350R models. Why 37? Well, it seems back in 1965 Shelby said they produced two prototype models along with 35 production GT350R models, for a total of 37.
While these 50th anniversary 2015 Shelby models are sure to be a hot commodity, don’t worry if you can’t get your hands on one. Ford will continue to produce the Shelby GT350 for 2016 and it won’t come in such limited numbers.
